Western Sydney Airport is an Australian Government-owned corporation responsible for delivering the Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport. Currently under construction and set to commence operations in 2026, this transformative infrastructure project aims to generate significant economic activity, provide local employment opportunities for the Western Sydney region, and address Sydney’s increasing aviation demands.
In early 2021, Western Sydney Airport sought an exclusive technology recruitment provider to assist in scaling up its technology function. Steven Fulop was appointed as the Account Director for this partnership. The airport needed to establish a core leadership team that would report directly to the Chief Technology Officer, followed by additional individual contributor roles essential for the team’s expansion.
Steven successfully filled several senior positions, including:
In addition to the leadership roles, Steven also placed individual contributors in the following positions:
Steven managed the recruitment for all roles exclusively, executing end-to-end recruitment campaigns on a co-branded basis for the leadership positions. He acted as an extension of Western Sydney Airport’s internal recruitment function, serving as a brand ambassador while supporting the organization’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
All roles were filled on time, adhering to the previously established recruitment timelines and budgets. Notably, among the six leadership positions filled, two were occupied by female candidates, reflecting a commitment to diversity. A total of 35 individuals have been placed into the technology team at the time of writing. The successful partnership exemplifies effective collaboration in building a skilled technology team, ensuring that Western Sydney Airport is well-equipped for its future operational demands.
